Marketplace product research tools UK: a practical guide to Amazon, eBay, Etsy and OnBuy
A practical guide to UK product research tools for Amazon, eBay, Etsy and OnBuy, naming Jungle Scout, Helium 10, Keepa, Terapeak, ZIK Analytics, EverBee and costs.
What to take away
- Product research tools answer one question: is there repeat demand for this item on this UK marketplace at a margin after fees and VAT?
- Amazon UK data leans on rank and keyword estimates. Jungle Scout, Helium 10 and Keepa are common starting points.
- eBay UK sellers can use Terapeak inside Seller Hub, and ZIK Analytics from around 19 US dollars a month.
- Etsy UK sellers can try EverBee from around 29 US dollars a month and eRank, with a free plan and paid Pro near 10 US dollars a month.
- OnBuy has thin third party coverage, so use its seller dashboard and category pages, then verify by hand.
Where UK demand data comes from
Tools rarely invent data. Most pull from public listing pages, search suggestions, or seller panels.
Amazon UK figures are modelled from category rank. Jungle Scout and Helium 10 show monthly sales estimates as ranges. Keepa shows price and rank history, not sales counts.
eBay UK sold listings are visible to anyone. Terapeak uses that sold data and sits inside eBay Seller Hub. ZIK Analytics adds bulk sold searches.
Etsy UK and OnBuy publish thinner histories. EverBee and eRank lean on search interest, favourites and listing counts. OnBuy has no widely used specialist tool, so check its category pages and seller dashboard.
Wikipedia's list of online marketplaces shows how many venues a UK seller could spread across. Most tools cover two marketplaces well.
The four UK marketplaces and their signals
Coverage is not even. Each marketplace publishes different evidence.
| Marketplace | Main signal | Tool examples | UK note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon UK | Rank and keyword volume | Jungle Scout, Helium 10, Keepa | Fees hit margin first |
| eBay UK | Sold history and watchers | Terapeak, ZIK Analytics | Auctions differ from fixed price |
| Etsy UK | Search, favourites, seasonality | EverBee, eRank | Gift demand peaks late in the year |
| OnBuy | Listings and seller counts | OnBuy seller dashboard | Coverage is thin, verify by hand |
Sourcing, tracking and listing are three jobs
The first two get sold in one bundle and are not the same. Competitor tools watch existing listings. Sourcing tools hunt for items you have not listed, then test whether they can be bought and shipped at a profit.
Jungle Scout and Helium 10 include sourcing databases. Keepa tracks price and rank changes on Amazon listings you already watch. Dynamic pricing sits between the two. Wikipedia's entry on dynamic pricing explains the mechanics.
Many suites bundle sourcing and tracking, then charge once. Check whether sourcing credits run out before tracking does.
Listing is the third job. Our comparison of multichannel listing software for UK marketplaces covers how the main feeds handle eBay and OnBuy side by side.
Five steps to shortlist a tool
- Write down the marketplaces you sell on today, not the ones you might add.
- Ask each vendor how the demand number is produced and how often it refreshes.
- Run the tool on ten products you already sell and compare its estimate with your real orders. Use Jungle Scout or Helium 10 for Amazon UK. Use Terapeak for eBay UK. Use EverBee or eRank for Etsy UK.
- Check what happens to saved lists if you cancel.
- Price the plan against gross profit per month, not turnover.
Where the costs sit
Entry plans often start free. eRank, EverBee and Helium 10 have free tiers with caps. Terapeak sits inside eBay Seller Hub, with access tied to your eBay plan. Keepa has free charts, with paid access around 19 euros a month.
Paid tiers charge by tracked products, searches or credits. Helium 10 Starter is around 39 US dollars a month, Jungle Scout Starter around 49, ZIK Analytics from around 19, and EverBee paid plans from around 29.
Ask what the meter counts before comparing quotes. A cheap plan that caps searches can cost more than a larger plan you never max out.
Demand estimates are quoted gross. If you are VAT-registered, work out margin on the net figure, and check the VAT registration rules on GOV.UK.
Turning research into stock decisions
Research only pays if stock can be replenished. Before you commit to a supplier, check how inventory software for UK marketplace sellers ties a reorder point to the demand figure the tool gave you.
A reorder point that ignores overseas lead times will trigger late. Test that link with one product before scaling across marketplaces.
Common questions
Do I need a paid tool to find products for Amazon UK?
Not at the start. Amazon's Best Sellers lists are free and dated. Keepa has free charts. Helium 10 and Jungle Scout have free entry options.
Are trending products on eBay UK a reliable demand signal?
Partly. Sold listings show what changed hands, but a one week spike is not a trend. Terapeak gives sold data inside Seller Hub. ZIK Analytics adds bulk checks from around 19 US dollars a month.
Can one tool cover all four marketplaces?
Rarely well. Helium 10 and Jungle Scout focus on Amazon. Terapeak focuses on eBay. EverBee and eRank focus on Etsy. OnBuy is often missing, so check the marketplace list before you pay.
